Autograph Concerts at the College - 2005 / 2006
Following on from the success of last year’s Autograph Concert Series, Brighton College is please to present an exciting and diverse programme of six chamber concerts for the Autumn of 2004 and Spring 2005.
Workshops allowing the unique opportunity for young people to receive expert tuition from some of the most experienced musicians in the world will take place on the afternoons of three of the concerts once again. These proved hugely popular last year, most memorably with the Swingle Singers who packed the Great Hall to bursting! I hope that some our regular audience might consider attending these educational events, details of which can be found on the inside back page of this brochure.
The young and talented pianist Martin Cousin opens the series. As winner of the Royal Overseas League Music Competition in 2003 he has a glittering career ahead of him as a concert pianist. He returns to Brighton having given a concert earlier this year in the Festival. With numerous acclaimed recordings to date, Tonus Perigrinus are the vocal contribution to this year’s series. Working with pupils from Brighton College they will present an unusual programme of vocal music from the very old to very new. The pianist Richard Meyrick has won accolades for his ‘thrilling technical wizardry and genuine sensitivity’. He is widely acclaimed for his work with young people and gives a workshop.
The Palladian Ensemble is a dynamic group of baroque instrumentalists with great versatility and audience rapport. They delight us with Bach, amongst others, including the Goldberg Variations. Past pupil of Brighton College, Rachel Smith (flute) and Emma Ramsdale (harp) give their Autograph debut in February, and finally the Scampa Quartet from Prague complete the season.
It has been a delight to see our loyal and local audience continue to support the Autograph Concerts in the past year, and I am also very pleased to see more and more students in the audience. It is very important that the series remains accessible and enjoyable to all.
