Ayan is a British Asian media doctor, medical expert and writer.
He is currently the senior partner of a busy NHS GP surgery in Haringey, North London and has been a consumer health adviser to "NHS Choices" which hosts the most popular health website in Europe.
He was an expert on Knowitalls, a novel quiz show, shown recently on BBC Two. Previously a presenter on Street Doctor on BBC One, and an occasional radio contributor for various radio stations, mainly for the BBC. His special interests include illness prevention and mind-body medicine, as well as mens health.
After schooling at Brighton College in Sussex he took a medical degree at the Imperial College School of Medicine in west London, followed by various hospital specialty jobs and then career training in general practice in Buckinghamshire. He is a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners. He is married to a psychiatrist, has a son, and lives in St Albans.
Ayan has written two books including An Essential Medical Miscellany which is a collection of facts, figures and anecdotes about medicine. He has also made contributions to various publications including the British Medical Journal, the Daily Mirror, Men's Health, FQ, 'Healthy' Magazine, Metro, More, Scarlet and Health and Fitness Online. He currently writes a column for Sweet magazine.
A trained singer, Ayan is a keen musician with ongoing interests in acting and the performing arts. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
