Letter from America # 7

Hi OB's,

It has been seven months since my last Letter from America. All is well here, well, except for the stock market and financial world which is crashing down around our ears. That and the fact that my family's beloved New York Mets choked down the home stretch of the baseball regular season to miss the playoffs but at least the Yankees crashed and burned with them ! That always makes a Mets fan feel better :) Sorry Yankee fans, nothing personal there. After all I am a man of the people ! whose job it is to train folks from all walks of life for active competition so I wouldn't say anything to discriminate against any group or group of fans... I am an equal opportunity dude but just can't take the Yankees ! Ok, got that off my chest..... only raced a few times since we last spoke..... took first resident in my town of Brielle back in March in a 5k and then first resident again in a 10k last month (September) which was fun. I won a mile race on the track earlier in the summer and took 9th overall at Indoor Nationals back in March up in Boston in the 3,000 meters. I ran 9.45. for just under two miles.... I turned 45 back in July so am now the young guy in a new age group which is great. Other than that I coached much more this summer than I actually competed. We had a wonderful summer of weather here at the Jersey Shore and thus were on the beach every day. My older son Luke (pictured above with his younger brother Sam at Shea Stadium ,home of the NY Mets,on Mother's day earlier this summer having a great time) learned to surf and so we had a blast surfing a great deal, especially in the early evening after I finished work. Also pictured above is my old Surf truck with all the surf boards loaded up inside and out. My younger son Sam, who, as mentioned in a previous blog was born with only a partial right arm as you can see from the photo at Shea. He is amazing, seeing him play with all the older kids and jumping in and out of the waves. At four he can already swim now and the lad has absolutely no fear. He is my inspiration each and every day !~ The kids are back at school now and it was really hard at first as I miss having them around during the day since I work mostly from home.

My book Run Tall, Run Easy, Second Edition continues to sell well and will surpass sales of the First Edition in about half the time. So I am humbled yet excited about that. You can order your copy today at http://www.runningbuzz.com/ I have never had an interest in politics but I must say the Presidential race between Senator John McCain and Senator Obama should be an interesting one with plenty of story subplots along the way.Well that is about it, I hope all is great in old Blighty ! We are gearing up for Halloween here which is a big deal in the USA especially on the East Coast and especially with two sons under the age of ten. Oh, one final thing, I received an e mail from a name from the past, Camilla Ravenshear who contacted me earlier this summer. That was very sweet and always great to hear from schoolmates from yesteryear. I can be reached easily at CoachGP@RunningBuzz.com

Take care everyone, Cheers, Gerard...
