Ken the Cod nets best boss boost

Ken MacKenzie (C. 1972-77) - a fish-and-chip shop owner who sends staff on surprise foreign holidays has been named as the country's most energetic boss. Ken, 46, from the Halfway Fish Bar in Poole, Dorset, has also travelled halfway round the world to find unusual fish to serve in his shop.

He was chosen after being nominated by staff - who call him 'Ken the Cod'.

"It all came as a total surprise, I'd do anything for my staff because they look after me," said Mr MacKenzie.

Mr MacKenzie also raises thousands for local charities, including opening his house every year for a charity barbecue which this year yielded £2,800.

"We've done silly things like fly out to the pyramids and come back at 10 o'clock at night having had lunch out there.

"It's much better than giving money or bonuses which just goes to pay bills."

The national search was organised by electricity company Powergen, in order "to highlight the positive energy and commitment of bosses".
