After Years of living the corporate life by day as a VP for an American Telecoms consultancy and
singing in clubs with my band by night, something had to give. I opted for the music. My wife of 16
years, Elaine and I sold up and moved to Tenerife where I am now working as a cabaret singer. The
move has suited us down to the ground and all is well.
There is however no escaping the college. The local radio station over here (Oasis) is run and owned
by Chris Elkington (C.1978-84) who wishes , as I do, all OBA's well.
I would love to hear from any ex Bristol house buddys from back then if you are over in Tenerife for
your holiday. |

Was at BCJS 76-81 then the college 81-85 Durnford Hse. Left to work for Barclays Bank, in various
branches around Sussex, ending up at North Street Brighton. Met my wife Wendy at Church Road (Hove)
branch in 86, got married in September 89 in the
college chapel. Left Barclays to become a financial advisor for HSBC in 94. Big mistake, did that
for a year then went to Royal Life in 95, an even bigger mistake. Joined American Express in Oct 95,
still with them, in spite of the recent redundancies, working as a Project Specialist and have been
for 4 years now. Have 2 great kids, Hannah age 7 and James age 4.
Still live in Brighton.
Have very little hair left (some sort of gene defect I believe). Main hobby is going to the gym 2-3
times a week, and I do like to dabble in the kitchen now and then. Would love to hear from any old
brightonians who know me.
Still see Adrian Stride (L circa 80-84), as both our daughters go to Brighton and Hove High School.
Lost touch with Jason Burroughs, John Garland, Paul Edgerton, Darren Panto, Trevor Mole. Last saw
them at Pauls wedding back about 3 years ago.
Regarding David Golds comments in the last issue, on the state of the assoc. I think the new (?)
website designed by Alex and Guy is excellent. I also think that it would make sense to ditch the
antiquated hard copy issue, although it's nice to be able to read it in bed with a cup of tea.
Although I have not attended any of the OBA dinners/reunions, I am surprised to hear that they are
not very popular.
Think they should continue...I will get to one, one day. |

Having graduated with an MA in Animation at the Royal College of Art in July 2001, my two graduation
animations, 'West Pier' and 'Testrip' have both had international screenings over the past 9 months.
'West Pier', a personal refection upon the history of Brighton's West Pier has been screened on BBC
& ITV, as well as at animation festivals in Edinburgh, Ottawa, London, Foyle, Bilbao, Espinho and
Hanover. It will also be screened as a short accompanying Richard Attenborough's 'Oh what a lovely
War' at the Duke of York's Picture House, Preston Circus, Brighton on Sunday May 26th.
'Testrip' my other graduation piece, an animation about the experience of being a life model, was
selected by the British Council for screening in Berlin last month at Britspotting 2002 - a showcase
of new British film.
I am currently living in Shrewsbury, working as a traditional 2D animator for a company called 3D
Films based in Telford.
Fellow art-classmate/scholar Emma Francis is currently in her final couple of months at the Royal
College of Art completing her Silver/goldsmithing/metalwork/jewellery MA.
Don't be a stress-head, best wishes E-K! You'll be fine!
