• Old Brightonian Matt Prior (R. 1995-00) England wicketkeeper and two-time Ashes winner, returned to the College on Wednesday 30th November 2011 to open, officially, the new fitness and conditioning suite housed in what was previously the pre-prep school hall.

  • The Cricketer Cup First Draw

    Sunday, 12 June 2011
Old Brightonians 103 for 3, lost to Oundle Rovers 104 for 3.

Despite the drought of the early summer, the day of the first round of the Cricketer Cup dawned with rain, that wet sort of rain that continues all day. Undaunted by the wet conditions, eleven Old Brightonians travelled to Oundle for the fixture. It was decided by both teams that only a ten over match in the rain was possible, not ideal but a better alternative to replaying the game the following weekend.
  • The Long Room at Lord's Cricket Ground was the spectacular setting for the College's Gala Dinner Saturday 14th May, to help raise funds for the New Ground Pavilion.
  • As part of the 1st XI’s Twenty20 preparation in the early part of the season, the OBs challenged them to a match on the Home Ground. The OBs batted first and last year’s captain Adam Davies (L. 2005-2010), set the tone for his innings with a sweetly timed drive for four off the first ball of the innings.
  • Laura Marsh (F. 2000-05)Laura Marsh (F. 2000-05) Steers England to Historic Twenty20 Series Win in India

Former Brighton College pupil Laura Marsh made her highest score for England as they beat India by five wickets in Mumbai yesterday to win the Twenty20 series 2-1.  This is the first time that England have ever won a limited overs series on Indian soil.  Having been promoted to number four in the order, she responded with an unbeaten 47 off 53 balls.
  • We're delighted and very proud to announce that our very own Matt Prior (R. 1995-00) has been awarded a benefit season in 2012.

  • Old Brightonians Cricket took part in the inaugural Sussex Old Boys 20/20 Cup at Lancing College on 22 May 2011. Teams participating were Old Brightonians, Lancing Rovers, Old Eastbournians and Old Blues.
  • 1st XI beat Sussex Martlets
On Sunday 17th April the College 1st XI cricket side took on the Sussex Martlets as their season opener. The College got off to a good start with an opening stand of 188 between Eswar Kalidasan and Yass Bahemou. Excellent running between the wickets from Hugh Richards and a quick fire 20 off 13 balls from Jethro Menzies led to a competitive total of 270 for 4 being set. The Martlets seemed comfortable against the College seam attack and so the spinners were brought into the attack. The left arm spin of Billy Meboroh-Collinson was the turning point of the innings as he took 3 for 48 and this spell was followed up by Harry Klus who kept the pressure on and took 4 for 20. The college won by 45 runs.
  • Memories of Old Brightonian Cricket

    Wednesday, 16 February 2011
Peter Lush (H/S 1953-57)In 1969 the Old Brightonians were invited to take part in the Public Schools knockout competition run by the Cricketer and sponsored by Mercier Champagne. Nobody expected very much from us. We had a good side but not a great one, but we did have self belief and enthusiasm. The first match was against the favourites, the Old Tonbridgians. This was the closest game we played. With the scores equal we won through to the next round, having lost fewer wickets.

Thereafter things got much easier, the team went from strength to strength and we sailed through to the final, at Burton Court , near the Chelsea Baracks, against the Stowe Templars where we won in a canter. The reward was a lovely weekend in Epernay courtesy of the Mercier family. It was our equivalent of winning the Ashes. No OB side has reached the final since then, and the OB`s are currently twelth in the order of merit. The winning team was Tony Lush, captain, Brian Parsons, Richard Smyth, Derek Pickering, Ian and David Lock, Warwick Sabey, Peter Lush, Sandy Farrar. Adrian Harland and Mike Rowland.
  • Plaque in the Sammy Woods Pavilion

    Tuesday, 12 January 2010
A plaque has been erected in the Sammy Woods Pavilion to honour the enormous contribution of Geoff Lees, a former House Master of Aldrich, accomplished sportsman and great friend to many Old Brightonians. A number of Association members have already seen the plaque but next time you are a spectator at a game on the Home Ground, please do spare a moment to pop into the Pavilion and see it.
