• OBA Annual Dinner 2006

    Saturday, 25 November 2006
What an evening! If you don't believe me then just take a look the ‘photos on this website, you will see plenty of animated smiling faces which, for me, sums up the purpose of events like this. Mind you with a combination of Ann Widdecombe as guest speaker, over 150 guests and a large contingent of 1981’ers what more could one expect?
  • I have just come across the article by Martin Buss regarding his memories of the old Junior School on the south side of Eastern Road. He asks what became of the handbell that used to be rung. As far as I know it was still in use in the "next generation" Junior School in the old Convent of the Blessed Sacrament in Walpole Road up until the time my father retired from teaching in the early 1980's.

However, I do have another bell that used to hang in the corridor of the old Junior School, as well as a diamond-shaped piece of glass from the old leaded-light front door, as well as the brass door handle, all obtained by my father when the school moved. I also have some photographs that show parts of the exterior of the building, but not all of it.

    Michael Thornely (R. 2001-06)
Sussex have promoted their Academy batsman Michael Thornely to the professional playing staff.
The 19-year-old, who made his second team debut in 2005, has signed a one-year contract which means the county champions will again operate with 18 contracted players next season.
Michael has been working on his game and fitness during the winter as well as holding down a job at Gatwick Airport but he can't wait to concentrate entirely on cricket.
He said: "I have worked really hard this winter and it has paid off - it's a dream come true.
"It's been a serious goal of mine for the last three years and I can't wait to really get stuck in, although I realise I still have a lot of work to do."

  • One of the most enduring mysteries of the Cold War - who killed Commander Lionel "Buster" Crabb? - may finally have been solved.

A retired Russian frogman claimed that he cut the British diver's throat in Portsmouth harbour when he caught him placing a mine on the hull of a ship that had brought Nikita Khrushchev and other Soviet leaders to Britain in April 1956.
  • OB Day 2005

    Saturday, 10 September 2005
In spite of all the rain dances and prayers for divine intervention to assist the England cricketers at the Oval, Brighton College was blessed with warm sunshine for OB Day, which was fitting because for some, it was their first visit in many a year.
  • The Army & Navy Club, London SW1
As the old saying goes: "Yesterday, I couldn’t spell Vice President! Today I is one"! Well you might ask: "How did this happen"?
  • G.P. Burstow (H. 1924-29)

    Sunday, 18 June 2006
Those of you who remember Philip Burstow will know of his life-long devotion to Brighton College both as a boy and master. In 1929 he joined the staff of Brighton College Preparatory School which was then in Lewes Crescent, and remained in what later became the Junior School until his death in 1975.
  • OB Day 2006

    Friday, 16 June 2006
Attendance at these things seem so often to be reliant on the weather, and this year the sun certainly appeared to have delivered a good assortment of OBs to the College on a glorious September morning.

  • San Francisco Reunion 2002

    Friday, 07 June 2002

The 2nd OBA US Dinner was held in the Pacific Room at the Carnelian Room which is in the City's Bank of America building.

Ingram Losner (D. 1973-1978) organised a sensational dinner in an extraordinary setting. The Pacific Room was for those of us not used to eating dinner on the 52nd floor of a skyscraper quite the most wonderful experience! The view alone was worth the trip...
