• Old Brightonian Matt Prior (R. 1995-00) England wicketkeeper and two-time Ashes winner, returned to the College on Wednesday 30th November 2011 to open, officially, the new fitness and conditioning suite housed in what was previously the pre-prep school hall.

  • Golf Society Autumn Meeting 2011

    Thursday, 06 October 2011

This year’s Autumn Meeting was held at the beautiful Mannings Heath Golf Club. We were greatly indebted to local member Tom Hayward (D. 2002-06) for organising an excellent day at a heavily discounted rate.

  • In this year's Cyril Gray Trophy (team scratch matchplay foursomes for the more mature golfer) Brighton faced a tough battle against regular finalists Stowe in the 1st Round. So it proved. Warwick Sabey (B. 1959-65 )and Geoffrey Bush (H. 1965-70) played first pair and lost to some very steady par play. Nigel Dearsly (L. 1960-65) and Robin Colbourne (H. 1960-65) played second and went down quite close to home. Chris Pett (H. 1962-67) and newcomer Adrian Wood (A. 1971-76) played well and were all square after 17 and called it a half when the top two games had gone. 2½ - ½ to Stowe.

  • Old Brightonians Cricket took part in the inaugural Sussex Old Boys 20/20 Cup at Lancing College on 22 May 2011. Teams participating were Old Brightonians, Lancing Rovers, Old Eastbournians and Old Blues.
  • 1st XI beat Sussex Martlets
On Sunday 17th April the College 1st XI cricket side took on the Sussex Martlets as their season opener. The College got off to a good start with an opening stand of 188 between Eswar Kalidasan and Yass Bahemou. Excellent running between the wickets from Hugh Richards and a quick fire 20 off 13 balls from Jethro Menzies led to a competitive total of 270 for 4 being set. The Martlets seemed comfortable against the College seam attack and so the spinners were brought into the attack. The left arm spin of Billy Meboroh-Collinson was the turning point of the innings as he took 3 for 48 and this spell was followed up by Harry Klus who kept the pressure on and took 4 for 20. The college won by 45 runs.
  • Every team has had its successes and failures which have made them stronger, and we present here a wonderful compilation of video clips and photos from the season.

  • Sam Griffiths Foundation Event

    Sunday, 11 September 2011

The College hosted a fund-raising event on Sunday 11th September for the Sam Griffiths Foundation, which has been set up in memory of Sam Griffiths (School, 2005-8) who died in January 2009.

Despite a very poor weather forecast, the sun shone brightly during the main event, which was a memorial rugby match; the two teams comprised many of Sam’s old school friends from both Brighton College and Hurstpierpoint School, and also some of his friends from his rugby club, London Scottish in Richmond, London. After the match, all the players and spectators – around 125 people in total – congregated in the Great Hall for afternoon tea, during which Father Robert hosted an auction and raffle, which raised a fantastic £6,500 for the Foundation.

  • Rising Hockey Star
On Sunday 15th May 2011 Fraser Hope (U5th, School) led his Woking U16 hockey team to the Mercian Home Counties Championship title. Woking beat an excellent Wycombe team 5-2 in the finals played at Southgate HC. Wycombe, who were last year’s champions, are the unbeaten winners of the Mercian Premier League 2011. Fraser was selected to play for Surrey for his fifth consecutive year and in recognition of his skill and talent has again been nominated to go up to the Junior Regional Performance Centre where he will train and compete against "the best of the best" from across the country in the hope of being selected for the England hockey team. Fraser played for the Brighton 1st team last year and has been concentrating on playing for the Woking U16 on a Sunday and the Men's 2nd and 3rd teams on a Saturday.
  • The 1st XV beat Daily Mail Champions Whitgift 23-22 at the ‘Stoop' along with Epsom, Cranleigh and Dulwich which enabled them to come top of the Evening Standard League. A huge amount of credit should go to all the players but in particular Joe Beckett and Paymahn Seyed-Safi who have both been in the 1st XV for the 3 years. They also won the Reigate Norton Rose Sevens and the Worth Sevens.
  • Halford Hewitt 2011

    Tuesday, 10 May 2011
Arguably the strongest OB team ever assembled were in boisterous spirits during the practice days. There were strong grounds for optimism that we would win our first round for many a year.
