OB Rugby

The last few years have been tough for OB rugby but, it is still going and we do enjoy a now annual run-out against the College and a few other matches through the year. The "Pelicans" (the 7s team), is all about playing high-quality rugby with former school mates and entering a few select competitions. Comprehensive details for all fixtures will be published here. If you are available to play for any of the above fixtures, please contact the relevant person directly.

Please note: the club is self-funding so players will be asked to pay modest match fees to cover things such as player insurance and annual club subscriptions.

  • Brighton College pupils have achieved wonderful success both within and outside the classroom this term and one exceptional example is the 1st XV rugby team, captained by Marcus Smith (Upper Sixth, Leconfield), who are unbeaten in 24 matches. They have been victorious against strong rugby schools including St John's Leatherhead, Dulwich and Hurstpierpoint to become the first college unbeaten side since 1981/2.

  • We have made a special short feature film to celebrate hosting the England Rugby team last month. It also highlights the philosophy of the Brighton College Rugby Club, which is going from strength to strength at the moment. Record numbers of boys are opting to play the sport and the A teams are excelling nationally. I truly believe that Rugby Union at any level can help boys to fulfil their potential in life.

  • We are delighted to hear that Bloomberg Hong Kong Scottish have announced the signing of Gregor and Marcus Ramage (Ha. 2011-16) for the upcoming season. The 18 year old twins have recently moved to Hong Kong as part of Hong Kong Scottish’s first "Gap Year Programme." Marcus and Gregor have recently completed their IRB level 2 coaching certificates through The Hong Kong Rugby Union and will assist HKS coach in the local community as well as coach their junior club, The Flying Kukris.

  • Calum Waters was awarded his England U20s cap on Friday night after making his debut at scrum half against Wales in Bristol.

  • Honouring Peter Rumney (Ha. 1937-39), the OB RFC took to the field of battle, with a good mix of ages, on the 27th December against a youthful Hove XV. A huge thank you to all players and supporters who came out to fight the good fight and show their support. Particular thanks to the Rumney family and to Tim Loadsman (Le. 1951-57) who did a superb job as linesman.
