  • Kingsford Community School Scholarship

    Wednesday, 25 February 2009
In view of the redevelopment of the squash courts, Martin Buss (D. 1954-58) has agreed that the sum of £40,000 which he originally donated for the refurbishment of the courts some years ago, should be applied to supporting a scholar from Kingsford Community School for two years. This very generous donation will provide opportunity to a bright boy or girl from a less privileged background who will now have the tremendous start in life they so deserve.

  • Matt misses out on Stanford payday

    Sunday, 02 November 2008
Matt trudges off at the start of England's appalling performance in the 2008 Stanford Cup in Antigua Matt Prior (R. 1995-00) was part of the England team that missed out on cricket's biggest ever payday in Antigua at the weekend (01/11/08). Matt opened the batting well with Bell, but was soon out for 12 and the evening got worse for England from that moment on...

  • Halford Hewitt 2009

    Wednesday, 29 April 2009

A first round draw against Canford offered some ground for optimism that we would progress this year.  As is usual, there were some players unavailable that we might have liked to include, though we still raised a fair team of mostly middle single-figure players.  Unfortunately, hopes were dashed again.  In a very stiff north-easterly wind that made maintaining rhythm extremely difficult and the front nine at Royal Cinque Ports seriously testing (many a good drive failed to reach the third and fifth fairways), we went down 5-0, though not without some individual heroics.  The fact was that Canford's highest handicap was lower than all but one of ours!

  • OBs' World Cup campaigns

    Tuesday, 17 March 2009
The England Women's Cricket Team beat the West Indies last night and have qualified for the World Cup Final this Saturday. They have one more group game to play against Australia, the result of which has no effect on the final result. Holly Colvin (F. 2003-08), Sarah Taylor (W. 2002-07) and Laura Marsh (F. 2000-05) are all likely to play. The final is on Sky Sports this Saturday at 10.55 pm.

Ryan Manyika (S. 2002-07 - Zimbabwe) and Ollie Phillips (H. 1996-01 - England - Captain) have started their group games in the Rugby World 7s Cup in Dubai (Sky Sports).
  • OBFC in Title Decider

    Tuesday, 03 March 2009

The Old Brightonians Football team can snatch the 2008-9 Intermediate League Title from under the noses of main rivals Battle FC with one last push in the final game of the season.

A backlog of fixtures means that both this season fixtures between the OBs and Battle will be played back to back in a double header on the final deay of the season.

  • OBs v Hurstpierpoint, 27th Dec 2008

    Saturday, 27 December 2008
With Christmas hangovers and steaming breath whipped away by the icy winds the OB's arrived at Hove RFC for this years instalment of the Padwin Cup. With honours even from last year there was a real expectancy in the air, round two if you will, a second chance to establish dominance. Icy heads and fiery hearts took the field on the 27th to do battle for just a few inches of silver but a whole institution's respect. It is a shame that in recent years Hurst and Brighton College have discontinued sporting fixtures, but both Old Boy Club sides were adamant whatever the stakes we would fight to keep the long standing rivalry going.
  • Autumn Meeting 2008

    Wednesday, 29 October 2008

The Autumn meeting last year was held in October at Puttenham Golf Club, a little gem full of glorious autumnal colours tucked away near Guildford and where one of our longer-standing and loyal members has held just about every office a Golf Club can offer.  We don't think (and hope he hasn't) been Head Chef, but that is about all!
