L.A. based artist and Old Brightonian Philip Vaughan (BCJS/Ch. 1954-62) works in sculpture, drawing, painting as well as public art commissions. Brought up in France, he arrived in England at the age of 9. It was at Brighton that he met modernist Gordon Taylor, who was his art teacher, and then mentor who started him on a lifelong love of architecture, painting, and sculpture. We were delighted to welcome back Tuck Muntarbhorn (Ab. 2008-2012) this week. In his five years since leaving Abraham House, Tuck has achieved extraordinary success in the world of art and fashion.
From having made her debut for the Brighton College 1st XI cricket on the Home Ground, to being captain of the England cricket team and being awarded the OBE after leading England to their first Ashes win in 42 years, Clare was awarded a CBE in the 2017 New Year's Honours in recognition for her services to cricket.
Over the past six months since leaving Brighton, Guy (Al. 2012-17) has started his own clothing brand called PYNK&BLU, which is now backed by a global startup incubater called Schoolab based in Paris.
Rachel O’Nunain (Wi. 2009-16) paid a visit to Brighton College last week to coach the Senior Debating first pair of Jessica Pavey and Isabel Loubser, who have qualified for the 2nd Round of the ESU Mace Debating Competition at Ardingly in February.
Raja Dato' Zamilia Raja Mansur (Fe. 1983-85) has a fascinating career in Corporate Communications and is now the Vice President at Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad and is an active member of our OB community in Malaysia. In 2015 she was bestowed the highly prestigious Datukship title by his Royal Highness Sultan of Perak for her achievements towards Malaysia's development and we are delighted to feature her as this month's OB of the Month.
After leaving Brighton College, Ryan (Ry. 1989-94) worked in radio until he decided to change career paths and has been Chief Executive of the Rockinghorse Children's Charity since 2012. All of us here at Brighton are very proud to hear that Ryan was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Sussex Award at the Argus Community Stars Awards, which took place at the Brighton Dome on Sunday night.
Chris Terrill (Al. 1965-70) is to be made Honorary Doctor of Science on Friday 12 January 2018 at 10.00am at Durham Cathedral.
Shirley left Brighton College in 1978 after which she studied Architecture at the Brighton School of Architecture at Sussex University. She was a founding director of SW Architects in London, and after working as a chartered Architect, she is now a Party Wall Surveyor - and has worked on transformative projects such as Canon Place and the Shard of Glass in London.
