I set out from the overcast start line at Preston Park with Ned Lloyd (H. U6) and William Ramsay (R. U6) just after nine. We all settled into a steady pace, and the first thirteen miles through central Brighton, out to Rottingdean and then back to the Pier flew by. Fatigue started to set in as we ventured out into Hove, and the sunshine that we had previously longed for now wasn't quite so welcome.
Luckily Brighton College pupils were manning water and fuel stations all along the 26.2 mile route that proved welcome relief from the thirst and exhaustion. Five gruelling miles were all that remained as we circled Shoreham Power Station, and the finish line slowly came into sight.
Ned Lloyd was cheered across the line in a time of 03:28:32, followed by myself in 3:54:44 and then Will in 04:18:01. Both myself and the Whitehawk Inn are hugely grateful for the astounding support of so many Old Brightonians. The money that has been donated will make a real difference to the local people who are supported by the charity.
