A storied 1954 Jaguar D-type Works (OKV 2) is expected to fetch £9-£11 million at auction in Sotheby's Arizona sale on January 18-19.

The third of six works Jaguar D-types to be built at Jaguar's Coventry factory in 1954 it set a speed record of 172.97mph on the Mulsanne straight, then retired with a brake problem after midnight.

Duncan Hamilton won the 1953 le Mans race in a C-type Jaguar.
