Avast Landlubbers! This Friday we be celebratin’ 'International Talk Like a Pirate Day 2025'.
To honour this most auspicious day, the College Y'aaarchivist, Mr James Harrison, has dug deep into our treasure chest of fine historical drama records.
He managed to find photographs from all five school productions of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance throughout the years. One of the most enduring comic operas in history, it has been performed literally thousands of times globally since it premiered in 1879, and by Brighton College pupils in 1923, 1929, 1936, 1961 and, most recently, 1987.
Those of you who remember, or even participated in, the 1961 and 1987 productions, (see gallery below) please do feel free to tag your former classmates in our photo album on Brighton College Connect.
A report, and extra photographs, for the 1961 production can be found in the February 1962 issue of The Brightonian Magazine, and for the 1987 production in the September 1987 issue.
