Our warmest congratulations go to the outgoing Upper Sixth today, who are celebrating an exceptional set of A-level results and preparing to take the next step at universities in the UK and around the world.
Across the year group, pupils achieved a truly remarkable 349 A grades*, with more than 97% of all grades at A-B*. A total of 52 pupils achieved at least three A*s, including 34 who achieved four A*s and an impressive seven pupils who achieved five A*s.
The results have opened the door to a particularly strong range of destinations. Oxford is the most popular university destination this year, with Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Imperial and Bristol making up the five most popular destinations. Others are heading further afield, with members of the cohort securing places at leading US universities including Harvard, Stanford, Yale and Duke.
Three pupils also achieved the highest marks in the country in English Literature, Art and Photography.
Commenting on the results, the Principal, Richard Cairns said, “Our pupils have, once again, achieved superb grades, with a huge majority of all grades at either A* or A.” He also highlighted that the percentage of A*-B grades is almost identical to last year, at just over 97%, and is expected to rise further following re-marks and reviews.
The headline figures, however, tell only part of the story. As Mr Cairns noted, the real joy of results day can be found in the individual successes behind the statistics - including pupils who exceeded their own expectations, and those whose achievements reflect the resolve and courage they have shown in navigating significant challenges.
This has been a cohort whose achievements extend well beyond the classroom. During their time at Brighton College, these pupils have enjoyed national success in dance, rugby, netball, hockey, swimming, fencing, debating and cricket, alongside national recognition in Drama, Robotics and Choral music.
Above all, the Principal paid tribute to the character of the year group, noting that pupils had remained true to the College’s values of kindness and respect, and were “always quick to encourage others and to celebrate the achievements of others as much as their own”.
