We are absolutrely thrilled to celebrate Chloé Zhao (Fe. 1998-2000), for her extraordinary achievement at Sunday night’s 83rd Golden Globe Awards. Her film Hamnet took home Best Motion Picture – Drama.

Hamnet is an incredibly powerful adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s acclaimed novel about the grief-stricken family of William Shakespeare. It has been widely praised by critics for its emotional depth and artistic vision — and as a result it has picked up one of Hollywood’s most prestigious awards.

During her acceptance speech, Chloe brought the focus back to the heart of the film — its people: “Some of [the crew] lost their loved ones while we were making this film, and some are still struggling. We just want to say that we are thinking of you, we are here because of you, and we love you.” Chloe’s words underscore the compassion and humanity that epitomise her work.

Producer Steven Spielberg, who collaborated on Hamnet, summed up Chloe’s gift perfectly, saying she was simply, “the one filmmaker … who could tell this story.”
