Congratulations to Toby Harries (Sc. 2012-17), who won silver for Great Britain in the mixed 4x400m relay at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham on 10 August.
Toby (pictured far right) produced a superb 44.40-second split as he joined Ben Jefferies, Charlotte Henrich and Yemi Mary John to clock 3:10.47, securing second place behind Norway, who set a new championship record of 3:09.62.
Speaking after the race, Toby highlighted the importance of strategy and decision-making in the relay: “This team is about making quick, fast, decisive decisions that make us perform better than we are on paper. I'm very proud,” he said.
The medal adds to Harries’ impressive international record, following his bronze medal in the men’s 4x400m relay at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Toby went on to claim a second silver medal in Birmingham, helping Great Britain to another runner-up finish in the men’s 4x400m relay on 16 August. The Great Britain quartet produced a season's best performance, but finished behind Italy by just 0.03 seconds, with the Netherlands taking bronze. The result made it a memorable championships for Toby, who leaves with two European silver medals.
