On 12 August we acknowledge International Youth Day, and we are reflecting on this year’s theme: 'Youth Empowerment for a Healthier Future'—a call to involve young people in shaping decisions that impact their well-being, from mental health and education to the climate crisis.

It is a fitting time to celebrate the honest and empowering message shared by alumna Harri Brown (Fe. 2012-14), who recently returned to speak to our Lower Sixth at our annual Futures Conference 2025.

While many speakers highlighted traditional routes to success, Harri offered something different: a candid account of rejection, redirection, and perseverance. She spoke about how her childhood dream of journalism did not materialise, how a pivot to law fell short after a failed exam, and how even her first marketing job began with uncertainty. Rather than shy away from these experiences, she framed them as essential steps in finding her place and building confidence.

That resilience has paid off. Today, Harri is the co-founder of Antler Social, a creative social media agency she launched alongside colleagues Vic Banham and Jess Wreford. The agency has delivered award-winning campaigns for major brands, using creative strategy and data to generate millions of views and user engagements.

Earlier this year, Harri and her team were named to the Forbes Europe 30 Under 30 list for 2025, and recognised for their standout impact in the media and marketing industry.

Harri’s journey reminds us that empowerment is not just about achievement—it is about being open about challenges, supporting others, and helping the next generation navigate uncertainty with clarity and courage.
