We would like to congratulate James Way (Ry. 2005–10) on the exciting news that Canticles, his recent recording of Britten’s Five Canticles and Priaulx Rainier’s Cycle for Declamation, has been shortlisted for a prestigious Gramophone Award in the Song category.
James described himself as “gobsmacked” by the nomination, calling the repertoire a “clear, if daunting, choice” — and now, one that has received richly deserved recognition.
Critics have praised the recording as “a joy from start to finish,” highlighting James’s instinctive musicality and the ensemble’s technical excellence.
James’s career as a tenor has seen him perform with world-class orchestras and opera houses, including the Berlin Staatsoper, Munich Philharmonic, and Glyndebourne Opera. Beyond the stage, he currently serves as Deputy Director of Performance at the University of Cambridge’s Music Faculty and is a Bye-Fellow at Christ’s College. James says that his passion for performance psychology and musicians’ health further enriches his work as a coach and educator.
We offer James our heartfelt congratulations on this remarkable achievement — and encourage you to listen, share, and support this outstanding album, which is available now at Delphian Records.
