Some amazing news this week from Michael Needham (Du. 2007-13) founder and President of Uma Nota, Manila. His restaurant has been officially included in the Michelin Guide 2026. Even more notably, Uma Nota is the first and currently only establishment in the Philippines recognised in both the food category (Michelin Guide – Selected) and the beverage category (Excellence in Cocktails).
Uma Nota is a restaurant and bar that brings a taste of Brazil and Japan with a local twist. The concept first opened its doors in Hong Kong, finding its way over to Paris and in so doing, capturing the palate of an international audience.
From its vibrant corner in Bonifacio Global City, Uma Nota brings “a spirited blend of Brazilian and Japanese influences” to Manila’s dining scene. The Michelin inspectors praised its “lively atmosphere” and the way it “captures the joy of São Paulo’s street-food culture,” while commending the bar team’s “clever use of tropical ingredients and precise technique.” — a nod to the innovation behind their award-winning cocktails.
For Michael and his team, this moment marks more than a professional milestone. “From day one, our goal has been simple: to put the Philippines on the map for world-class hospitality,” he shared. “Today, we took another small but meaningful step toward that dream.”
Michael credits the success to the people behind the project — Chef Andres Rendon, Bar Manager Benjamin Leal, and co-founders Amir Borsok, Alexis Offe, and Laura Offe. “This recognition belongs to all of you,” he said.
Congratulations to Michael and everyone at Uma Nota Manila on this outstanding achievement.
