Miranda Rijks (Fe. 1983-85) has just been informed by her publishers that she has sold more than one million copies of her psychological thriller novels, marking a major milestone in a writing career.
Based in West Sussex, Miranda turned to fiction writing in 2019 following intensive cancer treatment, including chemotherapy and surgery to remove and replace her femur. What began as a creative outlet during her recovery has since developed into a successful publishing career.
Many of Miranda's novels have appeared on Amazon bestseller lists, attracting readers with their trademark tense domestic settings, unreliable narrators and unexpected twists. Among her recent titles is Don't Answer The Phone, a psychological thriller that follows a seemingly innocent act of kindness that leads to obsession, manipulation and dangerous secrets.
Reflecting on her journey, Miranda said, “Recovering from cancer made me rethink everything. As strange as it seems, writing thrillers gave me purpose and joy at a time when I needed it most. To now know that hundreds of thousands of readers have discovered my books is beyond anything I imagined.”
Several of Miranda’s novels are set in and around West Sussex, drawing inspiration from locations familiar to local readers while reaching audiences around the world. Her latest novella, The Plan, was published in May, and a new full-length psychological thriller, Just One Bite, is due for publication later this month.
Since publishing her first novel in 2019, Miranda has built an impressive catalogue of 29 psychological thrillers to date. The milestone of one million sales marks a notable achievement in a writing career that began as a deeply personal creative outlet, that has since gone from strength to strength.
