This winter, Om Sagar (Ab. 2018-23) and two of his Brown University rugby teammates, Max McCord and Rowe Stodolnic, will attempt the Rickshaw Run - a 3,000 kilometre, 14-day journey across India in a three-wheeled auto-rickshaw. Known for its unpredictability and demanding terrain, the challenge will take the team across towns, villages and landscapes that are rarely seen at close quarters by travellers.
For Om, the journey is about more than endurance. It is a chance to experience India with intimacy and authenticity, moving at a pace that encourages genuine encounters and a deeper connection with the people and places along the route. The team hopes to use the adventure to celebrate the richness of the country while also supporting a cause that resonates with them personally.
Om and his teammates are raising funds for the OSCAR Foundation, an organisation that empowers young people from underprivileged communities through sport and education. Having seen the impact of sport first-hand through their years of rugby at Brown University, the team is proud to support a charity whose values align so closely with their own belief in the power of confidence, discipline and opportunity.
The group recently launched their fundraising video and, within days, surpassed the £1,000 mark. Their updated UK JustGiving page is now live.
The team is also sharing their journey through their Instagram account, @gabruboysofficial where their video detailing the challenge can be viewed.
Om visited campus on Monday 24 November where he spoke to Abraham House pupils about the OSCAR Foundation and reflected on the influence of Brighton College on this project, noting that the spirit of challenge, the importance of community and the belief in the transformative role of education and sport all stem from his time at the College. He hopes the Brighton community will follow the journey and support the team’s fundraising efforts. We wish him safe travels.
