Last week, current Upper Sixth pupils considering applications to Oxford and Cambridge benefited from the advice and experience of 11 Old Brightonians currently studying at the two universities.
Joining us both in person and online, the alumni volunteers offered a first-hand perspective on life at Oxford and Cambridge, helping pupils to gain a clearer understanding of what studying at these leading institutions is really like. Their involvement also demonstrated that giving back to the College community does not always require a return to campus, with several contributors sharing their insights remotely via video link.
The evening featured an informal Q&A, followed by subject-specific breakout sessions, led by the OBs across a range of academic disciplines. These discussions gave pupils the opportunity to explore the distinctive teaching styles, tutorials, supervisions, academic expectations and application processes associated with Oxford and Cambridge.
With a strong cohort of pupils preparing for Oxbridge applications in 2027, the event provided valuable guidance at an important stage of the process. The advice comes at a time of continued success in Oxford and Cambridge admissions, with Brighton College pupils receiving a record 45 Oxbridge offers earlier this year, and Oxford emerging as the most popular university destination for the graduating Brighton College Class of 2026.
