Old Brightonian Peter Thomson (Sc. 1966–71), who perhaps will be remembered by some of our OBs for playing the title role in Hamlet in his final year at Brighton College, returns to the stage this week in A Christmas Carol, a new chamber adaptation of Dickens’ classic tale. The performance takes place on Friday 5 December at 6.00 pm at the Friends Meeting House on Ship Street, Brighton.
This special production blends an abridged version of Dickens’ text, to be narrated by Peter, with a score by composer Sally Beamish OBE. The music was originally written for a ballet choreographed by Sir David Bintley for the Finnish National Ballet and this new work has been adapted for Piano Quintet for this special performance.
The collaboration unites narrative and ensemble writing in a vivid retelling of Scrooge’s night of transformation, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience a much-loved story through a chamber-music lens.
