Former England wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor (Ch. 2002-07) has been appointed fielding coach for England’s men’s team during this summer’s Test series against New Zealand - becoming the first woman to coach an England men’s side in a major sport.

Sarah represented England 226 times between 2006 and 2019 and is widely regarded as one of England cricket’s finest ever wicketkeepers. Since retiring, she has built an impressive coaching reputation through roles with Sussex, Manchester Originals and the England Lions set-up.

England managing director Rob Key praised Sarah’s appointment, calling her, “One of the best in the business.” and highlighted the impact she has already made working with players and staff.

The three-match Test series against New Zealand begins at Lord’s on 4 June.

Speaking to BBC News, Sarah said she prefers to focus on the work rather than the attention, adding, "I want to see how far I can go, and work with some of the best players that I can."

The Old Brightonians would like to send our congratulations. Sarah’s appointment marks another milestone in a career that has already left a significant mark on English cricket, both on and off the field.
