Toby Harries (Sc. 2012–17) has been selected to represent Team GB in the 200 metres at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, this September.
Those who follow Toby’s open and honest account of life as a professional athlete on Instagram (@toby_harries) will know that his road to Tokyo has been anything but straightforward. His bronze medal in the 4×400 metres relay at the Paris 2024 Olympics affirmed his potential on the world stage. However, with only three places available for the individual event, Toby made the strategic, but challenging decision to switch focus to the 200 metres.
A two-time British indoor champion over 200 metres, Toby’s qualification was by no means guaranteed. We are therefore delighted that his dedication and perseverance have been rewarded with selection for Team GB. The transition from the gruelling 400 metres to the explosive 200 metres highlights not only his athletic ability but also his remarkable work ethic. He approached each race like it was his last chance, steadily securing the points he needed to earn his place.
Please join us in congratulating Toby on this exceptional achievement. We wish him every success as he prepares to represent Team GB once again on the global stage.
