In October we were delighted to report that Dan Lategan (Sc. 2022-24) had signed his first professional contract with Worcestershire County Cricket Club. Just six short months later and there is a growing sense of assurance about Dan’s place at the top of the order for Worcestershire - and recent performances suggest that this confidence is well placed.
Still at the beginning of his professional journey, Dan has begun the 2026 County Championship season in notably composed fashion. On Saturday he produced a fluent half-century against Middlesex at Lord’s - his second in as many matches - underpinning Worcestershire’s strong position in the game. Worcestershire went on to win the game by 57 runs.
What has stood out is not simply the weight of runs, but the manner in which they have been accumulated. Opening the batting, Dan has combined patience with a readiness to play his shots, building a significant first-wicket partnership and setting the tone for the innings.
Of course, those familiar with his time at Brighton College will recognise the same clarity of approach: measured, technically sound, and quietly assured. The transition into senior county cricket can be difficult, but Dan appears increasingly at ease.
There is plenty of cricket ahead this season, but early signs are encouraging to say the least and we wish Dan well!
